AB 362
"Ammunition: Vendor Registration, Registry, Sales and Delivery"
Author: Assemblyman Kevin de Leon
Status: Senate Appropriations Committee 8/20/07
Description:
Post added: 7/19/2007
On Tuesday, July 10, 2007, AB 362 was amended severely. The bill went from addressing ammunition Vendors and their activities, to requiring a study and resultant report on the "feasibility of creating a system of licensing or registration ...of handgun ammunition sales."
We say, "good job well done" to those who made calls and talked to their legislators and the Senate Committee Members.
We will keep you posted on new language in the bill and how it will impact you.
AB 362 Ammunition Venders Registration
Assemblyman Kevin de Leon,(D-Los Angeles) has authored AB 362 which uses ammunition as a vehicle to undermine the legitimate gun owner.
This bill picks up the scattered pieces of last years vetoed or failed measures and resurrects them to parade again through the circus of California's legislative process, mitigated and promoted by the anti-gun clowns in control.
This measure requires retailers to be registered before they can sell handgun ammunition, and they and their employees must have a background check before they can handle ammunition as they work. The DOJ will keep a registry of registered handgun ammunition vendors!
As if that isn't odious enough, this measure resurrects ideas from AB996 from last year, and requires ammunition to be inacessible to a purchaser and handled only by the employee or retailer. That bill was vetoed by the Governor.
Last year, AB 2714, the bill that threatened mail order of ammo, and mandated in person identity checks for purchasing ammunition and later was amended into requiring a signature for delivery of ammo, was vetoed by the Governor. AB 362 brings back the issue of mail order ammunition.
California gun owners will find themselves impacted by this measure, should it pass.
