Gun Owners of California Releases 2018 Primary Election Scorecard

That’s right – election season is on us once again and Gun Owners of California Campaign Committee has officially set the stage for the upcoming Primary Election with the release of our 2018 Primary Election Scorecard.

Hitting mailboxes throughout the state at roughly the same time as absentee ballots, it is GOC’s intent to arm and inform voters with the facts:  who stands with us on the 2nd Amendment and who stands against us.  It’s as simple as that.

Legislators who have established voting records have been graded exclusively on those votes; on the other hand, candidates are graded on how (and if) they responded to our very comprehensive questionnaire, which was sent to every individual certified as a candidate by the Secretary of State.  A number, however, chose not to participate.  Could this be due to the anti-gun hysteria that’s spread from one corner of our nation to the other?  Are candidates fearful of going on the record – in defense (or not) of the Constitution?  If so, we think they are in the wrong line of work.  From GOC’s perspective, those who didn’t respond send a pretty clear message that the 2nd Amendment is not a priority, and therefore are marked with a DNR.

GOC has taken some heat in the past for being so heavily involved in the political end of things, but this is the most certain way to make sure the politicians aren’t ignoring us.  Abraham Lincoln once said that “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”

True words from the wisest of men.

Politics can be ugly and we understand why so many just want to tune out – no one wants to listen to persistent, whiny yammering by people wanting your vote.  Just understand, though – unplugging comes with a price that none of us wants to pay – and this is exactly why we publish the Scorecard.  We want you to be armed and informed, because an uninformed voter is dangerous.  Please share the Scorecard with friends and family – make copies, or go online to print, or attach it to an email.  There are many ways we can spread the news as to who is with us – and who is not.

Remember, too, that GOC changed how we score our elected officials this year.  We grew tired of watching our friends sit silent while an anti-gun bill came before them – thus, no one gets an A for simply voting right.  To secure an A, a legislator must rise and speak on the 2nd Amendment or introduce pro-2A legislation.  As you can expect, some Senators and Assemblymembers are not pleased with this new policy, but GOC stands behind it, as do our members.

Stay armed – and informed!  To link directly to the Scorecard, click here.
